I decided to subtitle this post a world of possibilities.  There are many options for us and many are more desirable than what we currently have.  I didn’t say probabilities, which are more likely occurrences, because to get to probabilities we have to have more firm intention of what we desire – and I might add that we all desire.

If we survive as a free species, what is our future destiny?  I am a Star Trek fan – a trekkie.  I love the various visions of what the future is shown to be.  Notably, in Star Trek it still follows the cowboy formula in that there are always good guys and bad guys.  What I always found intriguing in these shows was the society that the Enterprise and the other spin-offs was set within.  What made/makes Star Trek so popular?  I’m not going to dissect the shows, merely to point out a couple of things. In the original series with ‘James T Burk’ (I know it’s Kirk) the underlying message of each episode was always set within the period of the Cold War and the social upheavals of the 1960s, but there was a moral of some kind to establish an ethical aspect for a future humanity.  In the later following series spin-offs, the messaging was more general and applicable across the board – still a westernized framework though in a technological future.  Think about the social set up of the show.  In the first series you had a multinational group and even a major character of color (Uhuru) that was less blatant in later spin-offs.  But one of the main features is that in this future, it seems like everyone could rise to their highest potential and social economic status (although seen) was not obvious or important.  It was a future that seemed to be more equitable – and aspiring to be fairer across the board.

It’s about CHOICES – REAL CHOICES!!  We have to stop making excuses.  How can there be any hunger, war, or injustice if WE make the choice at our level about the greater good if WE CHOOSE Fairness and justice.  How can anyone be screwed over if we live a daily version of ourselves that is based on Love, Compassion and Cooperation.  If YOU do not begin the process, who will?  If you do not begin to show others how to climb out of the rut, who will?  We CANNOT keep waiting for Superman to appear.  We are superman.  WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.

From the cartoon film ‘ANTZ’ where the grasshoppers control the ants and have them provide food for the marauding grasshoppers:  Lead Hopper:

“You let one ant stand up to us, then they all might stand up! Those puny little ants outnumber us a hundred to one and if they ever figure that out there goes our way of life! It’s not about food [our power], it’s about keeping those ants in line.”

And the kicker about this for us.  We outnumber the hierarchical elite that control us by over one million to one.  WHY do we insist on staying in the rut that the hierarchy have programmed us to create for ourselves?

Einstein emulates many great writers about the environment and humanity: “A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘Universe’; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest — a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.  This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.  Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.”

I have presented a broad vision in this blog and in my SL textbook.  Rather than give my vision here again, I want YOU to ponder what an ideal world looks like for YOU.  I’ll return to more aspects of SL next time and thoughts about how we get there.  We always talk about being realistic, but vision is too bounded by realism.  A visionary dreams of possibilities that can be moved into probabilities and then manifested into a new reality.  John Lennon had it with ‘Imagine’ and you are not the only one.    Dare to dream and imagine that new world you would love to see happen.  Then your intention will be set on something that excites you.  The naysayers are often jaded and critical of any change, but they have bought into the negativity.  You don’t like the rut, then climb out of it.  Find a way.  Develop that vision for yourself……Dream….    If you are still looking for a bulleted action list, then you need to start thinking transformationally, not reformationally.  More about Vision next.
