Computers are wonderful things – until they aren’t. For those following this blog, my apologies. My programs needed some fixing, and I was on the road in Florida without access to program support. There’s a metaphor there somewhere about modern living and the inherent problems we have? (see further down).
“Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.” M. C. Escher
As I have quoted earlier: “If the world is to be saved it will be by people with a New Vision that inspires them.” Quinn. So what is vision? The dictionary gives: “the act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be: prophetic vision; the vision of an entrepreneur.” At this time there is no shortage of visionaries. And there is no shortage of people who recognize what is happening. Maybe they do not know all the details, but as I travel and talk with people, it is obvious that many people recognize that much is wrong, despite the illusions otherwise. We need people to wake up from the dream and take stock of what is happening. I did several posts about why we stay in the rut despite our desire to transform the world. So many people have a vision of what a better world can be and there are people out there ready to make it happen, if only they were followed in their quest.
“I close my eyes and I can see. The world that’s waiting up for me, that I call my own. Through the dark, through the door, through where no one’s been before, but it feels like home. They can say it all sounds crazy. They can say, I’ve lost my mind. I don’t care, so call me crazy. We can live in a world that we design. Every night I lie in bed, the brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all it’s gonna take. A million dreams for the world we are gonna make.” The-greatest-showman. Lyrics from A million Dreams.
Vision is a statement of intent. Recall Quinn: “When the plane is going down and someone offers you a parachute, you don’t demand to see the warranty.” And, “Old Minds: How do we solve the problems? New Minds: How do we make happen what we want to happen? “But will we still have to pay taxes?” This is the frustration I face in that people want a transformation but somehow expect it to be SO DIFFERENT that is negates the current reality. “What, No Miracles?” WE NEED TO CHANGE OURSELVES. We need to drop the APATHY and the FEAR.
“The plain fact is the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, story tellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.” David Orr.
If you don’t want to follow your own dream, then find someone who has a dream you like! And then scrutinize it to be sure it isn’t simply a glossed-up version of what you are leaving behind. There is a joke about a man that dies and arrives at the pearly gates. St Peter looks at his file and says that he as a middling kind of guy, neither good nor really bad, so he can choose where he will go. He gets on a down elevator and is shown hell and it is like a playboy resort. Then he gets on the up elevator to be shown heaven where old men in robes are shuffling around reading books. His choice is hell. When the elevator arrives back in hell, the doors open to a stifling and hot kitchen where he is forced to peel a never-ending pile of potatoes. When he complains about what he was shown versus what he is doing now for eternity, the devil kitchen boss, says, “Oh that! That’s just the illusion for the tourists. Florida is lot like this joke. As I observe it, there are roughly five populations in Florida: 1) Retirees who did well in life’s struggle and moved to upscale neighborhoods, where they now lounge boringly around pools and beaches after the novelty of living in Florida wears off. Some even volunteer their skills at local businesses so as not to feel worthless; 2) Snow Birds that commute between Florida in the Winter and their northern homes in the summer; 3) Retirees that prefer the warm climate and make ends meet on limited incomes, while doing odd jobs where they can; 4) the rest of Floridians who pretty much serve the retirees: AND 5) The hoards of tourists that come to enjoy the sun, beachers, entertainments (like DisneyWorld), or otherwise to escape and live temporary lives that do not resemble their everyday lives. The third and fourth groups live the reality of Florida, while the rest live the illusion.
When pondering your dream, don’t get immobilized by the Nay-Sayers. Look for those willing to listen and DO something new and that are out there already with a system that is working well. Actively look and find those already doing a new way and see how you can join them. AVOID CULTS & OTHER VEILED HIERARCHIES. The new way will feel right and not infringe on your free will to be you want to be and what you want to do. People today keep thinking of the environment as part of their world outside the confines of their experience of modern living. We need to get them to break out of their experience and see the natural world differently. Be a modern day prophet with a new vision for the people you know. Those that are ready will listen to you. Paint a different picture of a eutopia for people to look at rather than the dystopian one they have to live under. Please note: a transformed world will look a lot different from what you leave behind even if the sky is still blue and leaves on the trees are still green. The human mind, the human spirit, and the human system will be one’s that raises consciousness not depresses it. TBC…..
